Engine Oil

What does engine oil do?

Engine oil lubricates, cleans, cools and protects your engine and all moving parts, reducing wear and keeping your car running smoothly.

Over time, engine oil loses its friction modifiers and cleaning agents becoming contaminated with acids and sludge. Regular oil changes prevent premature engine wear and reduce the risk of oil seal failures.

  • Normal driving (mostly highway): every 10,000 km or 6 months, whichever comes first

  • Severe use (short trips, stop-start traffic, high-speed driving): every 5,000 km or 6 months

  • High-performance, diesel, or turbocharged engines: every 5,000 km or 6 months

We always use the oil grade recommended by your vehicle manufacturer. For most clients we recommend changing oil every 6 months or at least once a year – cheaper than replacing an engine!

Automatic Transmission Oil

Transmission fluid degrades over time and failing to replace it can lead to premature transmission failure. Changing the fluid and filter every 40,000–50,000 km can significantly extend transmission life.

Depending on your vehicle, some transmissions have external filters while others require pan removal. We flush transmissions, hoses and filters and replace with new fluid at the same time.

Brake Fluid

Brake fluid is hydraulic oil that transmits pressure to your brakes.

Brake fluid absorbs moisture which can cause internal rust, pitting and in extreme cases brake failure.

We test moisture content annually. Most vehicles require fluid replacement every 2 years or sooner if moisture exceeds 3%.

If the fluid is overdue you may notice a firmer brake pedal with less travel. If fluid is maintained regularly braking feels the same.

Cooling Systems

Coolant prevents freezing in cold weather, raises the boiling point and protects against corrosion in your cooling system.

Rust and corrosion can damage the radiator, water pump, hoses and even cylinder head gaskets leading to costly repairs.

Most vehicles: every 2 years. Some long-life coolants last up to 4 years. Replacement is also recommended if rust is visible or tests show low antifreeze levels.

We flush to remove all old fluid and replace it with the correct amount of new coolant.

Disc Rotors & Brake Pads

Modern brakes generate high heat, which can warp rotors and cause pedal pulsing or brake shudder. Machining restores a smooth surface, ensuring brakes work efficiently and safely.

Rotors are measured before machining. If they’re below minimum thickness we recommend replacement.

Pro tip: Avoid washing hot wheels immediately after driving; rapid cooling can warp rotors.

Timing Belt / Cambelt

A timing belt synchronises engine valves and pistons. Some engines use a timing chain instead.

A broken belt can stop your engine immediately sometimes causing severe internal damage.

Follow manufacturer recommendations. A general guide: every 5 years or 100,000 km, whichever comes first.

Costs vary by make and model. Components like water pumps, pulleys and tensioners may need replacement at the same time for safety and cost-effectiveness.

Intermittent Engine Problems

Modern vehicles have complex electronics, sensors and wiring systems. Some problems may occur sporadically making diagnosis challenging.

Yes, we use advanced scan tools and lab scopes to capture faults when they occur. However intermittent issues may take time to trace.

It depends on the fault. We typically agree on a starting price and keep you updated as we diagnose.

Dashboard Warning Lights

Lights like Check Engine, ABS, TRC, VSC or ALB are controlled by ECUs which monitor vehicle sensors and set fault codes when readings fall outside normal ranges.

We use a diagnostic scanner to read ECU fault codes which helps us pinpoint issues.

Never ignore warning lights. Contact us immediately to determine if the vehicle is safe to drive and schedule a check.

Additional FAQs

Yes, we can carry out Warrant of Fitness inspections and provide professional advice on your vehicle’s condition.

We use either genuine manufacturer parts or high-quality aftermarket parts for all repairs and servicing. The use of second hand parts for some vehicles are used if the customer requests us to source them.

Yes, if available we have a courtesy vehicle to keep you moving while we work on your car.
